Explore the town on a self-guided Heritage Walk 

Start off your weekend of outdoor activities in Port Pirie by getting to know the town. Take a walk around and find out all about its rich history. Download a map here or pop into the tourism and arts centre to grab a visitor’s guide. As you walk around this quaint town you will discover the stories behind many of the original buildings. One must see on your walk is the Railway Station which operated between 1902 – 1967 which is now the National Trust Museum. Within its grounds you will find the former police station and former customs house. 

Discover Mount Remarkable National Park 

A visit to Mount Remarkable National park is a must for any nature lover. The park is filled with diverse wildlife and is a favourite destination for bushwalkers. There are heaps of trails for all ages and abilities and you can plan your route before you go on the Parks SA website where you will find all the trails from easy walks to hard, multi-day hikes.

Stretch your legs at The Pink Lake 

One of the most photographed pink lakes in SA is Lake Bumbunga, located an hour south from Port Pirie, the Pink Lake is a picturesque place to stop for a visit. The lake changes colour from blush to bright pink to white and blue depending on the salinity of the water and the light conditions. Whilst you stroll along the shore keep a look out for The Loch Eel Monster known as ‘Lochie’ a new sculpture installation which was added earlier this year.  

Spend the day at Solomontown Beach

Take a stroll along the scenic boardwalk which connects Port Pirie City to Solomontown Beach, providing a safe area for a swim or a paddle. Pack a lunch and enjoy a peaceful afternoon down by the water, stay for sunset and take in the beautiful view from the jetty as the sun goes down over Port Pirie. 

Cycle the Port Pirie to Napperby Track 

A perfect day out for mountain bike enthusiasts, the Port Pirie to Napperby cycle track takes you on a 10 km trail through stunning scenery ending in the quite town of Napperby situated in the foothills of the Flinders Ranges. The trail is rated at an intermediate level but don’t worry if you are new to mountain biking the Southern Flinders Ranges have multiple trails to suit all abilities.
