A Slow Weekend in Brisbane (for People Who Don’t Like Rushing)

If your idea of a good weekend doesn’t involve alarms or a packed itinerary, Brisbane might just be your city. It’s a place that doesn’t necessarily shout for attention; its charm comes through in soft mornings, long lunches, and golden hours by the river. Letting the day unfold feels completely natural. Take a deep breath, this is Brisbane, but slower.

Brisbane in Slow Motion

Maybe you’ve noticed, but Brisbane never asks for the spotlight, it earns it quietly. It’s the kind of city where the days stretch long and golden, and where no one seems to be in a rush. So, quite simply, you shouldn’t be either.

Because between its leafy parks, creative neighbourhoods, and riverside restaurants, Brisbane invites you to pause and wander. Chilling out under blue skies is literally the most Brisbane thing you can do.

Spend your weekend moving slowly between good coffee, dragged out lunches and the kind of simple moments that feel like a reset.

A Slow Weekend in Brisbane

This weekend itinerary is all about easing into the rhythm of the city, not about ticking off landmarks. Take a look, and thank us for the lack of rushing later.

Friday Evening

First things first: check into The Beeston Hotel or Mantra Terrace Hotel, drop your bags, and ease into a weekend (at whatever speed you wish). Then there’s dinner. And who said eating out wasn’t a whole activity in itself? Especially when you can turn dinner into a riverside stroll.

Greca, set right on the water at Howard Smith Wharves, makes things easy; after all, the best way to do food ‘slowly’ is with Mediterranean flavours and sharing plates. Take a slow walk there, enjoy the good food and company, as well as the river glittering beside you. Then, if you’re feeling it, you could even walk back (or just take your time finishing dessert).

See? We told you eating is a whole activity in itself.

Not ready to head back to the hotel yet? Pop into Felons Barrel Hall for a relaxed nightcap.

Saturday Morning

Ease into the day, because there’s no need to be a hero. Sleep in a little, then wander over to Felix for Goodness; the kind of café that makes you wonder how simple food can taste this good. Order whatever involves sourdough, but don’t rush it, because breakfast is taken seriously here.

Once you’ve decided enough is enough, make your way to South Bank Parklands. Take a casual wander through the Arbour Walk, and admire the bougainvillea, or sprawl out on the riverfront lawns like you’ve got nowhere better to be (because you don’t).

Ready for a little more? Duck into QAGOMA, Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art, and soak up some culture between coffees. Or, honestly, just grab another one and keep the lazy streak going.

Afternoon

When the sun starts to warm up, make your way to New Farm Park, Brisbane’s unofficial headquarters for doing absolutely nothing. Grab a picnic blanket, a book you may or may not open, and settle in under one of the giant fig trees.

If you’re feeling mildly productive (or just want to stretch your legs), wander over to James Street in Fortitude Valley. It’s where Brisbane’s cool kids shop and sip. You’ll find boutique stores, art galleries, and cafés that will give a truly aesthetic moment.

Evening

When the afternoon laziness fades into golden hour, wander over to Stone & Wood Brewery. It’s the kind of place that feels instantly easy; cold beer, warm light, and the happy hum of people who’ve also decided not to take life too seriously. Grab a tasting paddle if you can’t decide (they’re all good), and settle in for the evening.

If hunger sneaks up, order a few shared plates or wander nearby for something casual. There’s no shortage of good food within walking distance. When you’re ready to call it, take the long way back (maybe with a scoop of gelato on the way).

Sunday Morning

By Sunday, you’ll have fully adapted to Brisbane’s pace, so keep it going.

Start with brunch at Botanica Real Food if you’re in the mood for something light, fresh and colourful. Then trade city streets for something a little greener.

Wander through the City Botanic Gardens (or if you prefer, Brisbane Botanic Gardens at the base of Mt. Coot-tha), where palms sway in the breeze, or hop aboard a CityCat ferry and let the river show off the city from its best angle. No plans, no pressure.

Afternoon

Ease into your last few hours by heading to Paddington or West End, two neighbourhoods with serious personality. Explore the vintage stores, small galleries, and boutiques that invite you to do a lot of “just browsing”.

Grab a coffee, wander aimlessly, and call it local culture.

When hunger strikes, settle in for a long, late lunch at Naïm in Paddington, where Middle Eastern flavours hit the spot. If you’re still not ready to say goodbye, take one final detour up the Kangaroo Point Cliffs; the view’s worth it.
