Wondering where to eat on your next outback adventure? We decided to share our favourite spots for tucker in and around the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. From the Prairie Hotel’s Flinders Feral twists in Parachilna to every local’s favourite quandong pie from the Bush Bakery and Quandong Café in Copley. Take our word and be sure to pop in for a bit of grub along your next Flinders Ranges and outback escape!
The Prairie Hotel in Parachilna is renowned for innovative dishes with Australia native and ‘Flinders Feral Food’ twists. Try the ‘FMG’ – Feral Mixed Grill – listed as one of the top 100 gourmet experiences in Australia serving up Australian camel, kangaroo and emu for those game enough. Some native produce also used in the kitchen are quandongs, saltbush, lemon myrtle and native limes and bush tomatoes. While you’re there, don’t forget to wash it all down with an iconic Fargher Larger.
Many would agree it’s the best in the outback. The Bush Bakery and Quandong Café in Copley is an attraction in itself. Here you can enjoy a hearty meal from a variety of native animals including kangaroo and emu. Or try their quandong creations like the ‘quandong pie’, one of the great undiscovered bush tucker foods on the menu.
What’s a quandong? It’s a bush peach native to central deserts and southern areas of Australia.
Woolshed Restaurant at Rawnsley Park Station
Located inside an authentic Australian Woolshed, the Woolshed Restaurant serves delicious modern Australian cuisine with an ever-changing seasonal menu encompassing the best of local produce, including Rawnsley’s own lamb.
